Name: Cody Carson
Spouse: Madison Carson
MAI Location: Charlotte
Job Responsibility: Community Coaching/Assistant Camp Director
I grew up in Mississippi playing soccer with my friends from rec all the way up through college. After I graduated from college I began coaching right away as a junior college assistant and held that position for four years. I also coached area youth challenge and classic team. Through these experiences I learned that I love building relationships through soccer just as much as I love the game itself, and I love passing on the love and kindness that God has shown me to children and their parents. Working with the Charlotte Eagles provides the perfect platform to pursue these three passions every day!
How & why did you become a MAI Missionary?
Two things that have been constant in my life are God's faithfulness and soccer. His patient pursuit of my heart while I continued to fail by living life on my terms gives me a deep understanding of 1 John 4:19, "We love because he first loved us." One of the ways he's shown himself faithful (and why I'm in North Carolina) is through my beautiful bride Madison! We got married on December 13, 2014 and moved away from our families to Matthews, NC for her work. I had previously coached at a public college, and while it was a great job, I always felt as though I had to be careful about sharing my faith. In my heart I began longing for a way to intertwine my love of soccer and sharing about God's faithfulness. A month after we moved, I still had no job, but God showed himself to be faithful and good once again. In a way that could have only been Him, I met several likeminded men at the Eagles. Those acquaintances are now brothers who have not only provided me with a job but fulfilled my dreams of using soccer to make a difference in children and parents lives.
