MAI Location: Charlotte
Job Responsibility: Intern - Urban Eagles
I am Mike Kozlowski. I am 24 years old and from Charlotte, North Carolina (where I lived the longest). I am originally from Valparaiso, Indiana up by Chicago. Moved around when I was growing up to Ohio and then eventually Charlotte during high school years. Went to Winthrop University for a degree in Business Marketing, but as I was going to school I also worked at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte as an assistant youth pastor. I worked there for 5 1/2 years throughout school. Through that time, I felt like God was calling me to youth ministry or some sort of inner city ministry in my life, whether that be full-time, part-time, or volunteer. As time went on, God started calling me more towards the inner city neighborhoods in Charlotte. Since September 1, 2013 I have been an intern with the Urban Eagles in the neighborhoods of Birchcroft apartments and Grier Heights. Excited to see where God leads through the rest of this internship.
How & why did you become a MAI Missionary?
I got involved with volunteering with the Urban Eagles in Charlotte back in 2007. While I was volunteering for the Urban Eagles up until 2013, I was working as an assistant youth pastor at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte. God called me to step out into this internship with the Urban Eagles in 2013 with Missionary Athletes International in May. He spoke clearly to give up my position in the church and become an inner city missionary in Charlotte. The focus would be on the neighborhood of Birchcroft. I felt called to learn for a year about what the mission is all about and what it takes to do this long term. I am excited to be an MAI missionary right now and I am excited on where God leads from.
